Welcome to the Department of Economics. Keeping good education as the topmost priority in the department of Economics, Jagiroad college was founded in 1979 along with the establishment of the institution itself. Providing bachelor’s degree honours course for the students from that very year the department also made regular degree and higher secondary courses available to the students. Since then no looking back the department has attained certain heights of the fulfillment of students' desires in every possible way. Currently, the department has a strength of all three highly energetic faculty members with Dr. Purushttom Bhandari, Associate Professor as HOD and Vice Principal, and Mr. Bharat Bonia, Assistant Professor (Ph.D. pursuing at GU); Dr. Gitumoni Rajbongshi, Assistant Professor. The department of Economics has almost 50 honours students at present and almost 100 students in regular courses. This department is always holding a very strong, positive, comfortable, and friendly relationship with their students whose collective work has made it possible to develop the student's careers. Apart from the library of the institution the department of Economics also has a small departmental library with almost 250 books at present of various renowned writers which are mostly course-oriented reference books. With an intention to development of the skills of students the department also organizes certain extracurricular activities like annual budget discussions and seminar presentations by students and faculty members, special talks, extempore speeches, short-term certificate courses related to the branch of economics, etc from time to time. Every year almost 70% of students are securing 1st class from the department of Economics of Jagiroad college. Furthermore, this department is not only for students with excellence, but we also welcome our students with their pros and cons and try to help them show the right path to success.
